Luriko P. Ozeki, L.Ac. is the rare acupuncturist who specializes in holistic pediatrics and whole family care. Her gentle treatments for pediatric conditions emphasize non-needling techniques, natural, herbal medicine and Food as Medicine dietary counseling for the whole family. Luriko is also public speaker and on faculty at Yo San University. She is trilingual, offering health care in English, Spanish and Japanese. When not working, she spends all her free time with her talkative, active little boy and coffee-loving husband.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey to acupuncture:

I always liked making people feel better since I was a little girl, but never pursued this propensity until I was an adult. Working for a Japanese vitamins company, I learned more about Eastern nutrition and the Eastern holistic philosophies of health, nature and the body. I decided then to go into healing, and when I walked into what was to become my alma mater through serendipitous alignment of the universe, I knew instantly this was where I needed to be. I quit my full-time job and 4 years later, I graduated, passed my boards, and am now happily a physician of Oriental Medicine for the past 8 years.

What inspires you about working with kids?

To know that if I can change the course of a child’s health, I am hopefully changing the course of a child’s life into adulthood, making our world one step closer to a healthy society, breaking the cycle of obesity, diabetes and other chronic health problems on the rise now. I also believe that if I can help change a child’s health, I am also impacting the child’s family in a positive way by educating and empowering the parents, making the family as a whole happier, healthier, and with a healthy family, a healthier community at large. Grand aspirations I know, but I really believe in the impact one person can make, even a child.

What is your philosophy about keeping kids healthy?

My 6 Pillars:

1) Balance of eating clean and healthy (Earth)

2) Exercising/being active/being outdoors (Wood)

3) Playing and having fun and connecting with family and friends (Fire)

4) Resting/sleeping well (Water) and

5) Studying and having healthy boundaries within and from parents (Metal).

Surrounding these 5 elements is the 6th: Unconditional Love of Parents, sprinkle a little bit of Pediatric Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine into the mix when needed!

What is your practice name, location and website?

Do you have a specialty within pediatrics or are there certain conditions you like to treat?

I am successful at addressing digestive issues like tummy aches, constipation, diarrhea, but also have a high success rate with asthma. I am, however, a general medicine pediatric specialist, open to treating all pediatric conditions.
